IN the world of science, a great battle is being fought and there are two great powers on the battlefield, atoms and the vacuum.

Researchers at the University of Vienna in Austria have used atoms to re-create a dielectric – which is an insulator in which electric charges cannot flow through – on a piece of silicon. They used atoms from helium to build the dielectric – giving it up to 10 times the strength of that in regular dielectrics.

The key to the achievement was a process known as’spallation’, which removes atoms from the silicon and builds the structure.

The team, led by Christoph Bauer, was able to re-create the 10-nm-thick layer of insulator on a piece of silicon by blasting an electron beam through helium atoms that had been previously suspended on the silicon.

The team says the next step is to use a similar process to build a layer of superconductivity, in which electric charges move around with no resistance.Windows of the Soul

Yahoo offers a number of free widgets for your Widgets. Yahoo will let you do some free advertising for them.

This is an important second step, because people need to know about widgets. They need to know that widgets are not another form of advertising, but something new and exciting that will help them conduct their daily routines.

For example, I have a Yahoo! Widgets that is dedicated to locating and purchasing flights on a daily basis. People who click on that widget have a better chance of finding better prices. The more widgets I have, the better the chances.

I think these widgets are a great way for Yahoo! to make money, while offering an useful product. People will thank you.

Enter one of the contests that Yahoo! has to offer. They give their own panel a list of widgets to distribute to their users. You have to put those widgets in your online profile.

Use the spreadsheet to create and register your widgets. If you want, you can advertise for them, or any other thing you see fit.

If you win, you will get a letter in the mail, telling you where and when to appear. They will give you a number that you will use to be able to create more widgets, and you will have to be able to persuade people to use them.

Each widget will have its own link. You can’t just copy&paste a widget and use it. You have to provide a link to the widget in your profile, and make people aware that they can use that.

Some of the widgets may be small. And some will be big. I suggest you try the ones that are less daunting for you to create. After all, how much time

Some Widget Engines change the way you have to “run” a program. In this case, you have to start the program from the Command Prompt (Start/Run) or from a shortcut (.lnk) on your desktop. For some reason, even though the files are actually a shortcut file, it still gives an error message if you run the icon. To get rid of that, you have to click on the Widget’s icon in the taskbar, then double click on the icon that runs the program in the Command Prompt.
